Renae Putala
“She’s our joy in the morning,” says new mom, Renae Putala, of her month-old-baby daughter, Charlie Jo.
Renae recently delivered her fourth baby at Memorial Satilla Health, but trauma from nearly losing a child while in labor at another facility made Renae extremely anxious about this delivery. Within minutes, Memorial Satilla’s Birthing Center care team calmed her fears and set her mind at ease.
“I almost lost a baby five years ago in labor and I had so much fear from that, but we couldn’t have asked for a better experience here,” Renae said. “I feel like the entire L&D staff are angels. Everyone made me feel safe and secure and that feeling is invaluable. They will all stay with me forever. I’ll never forget them!”
Renae presented to the emergency room in the middle of the night alone to be told she was in active labor. “I was terrified because I’d never gone into active labor before, and my husband was home with our other three children, but my nurse, Brittany, didn’t leave my side. She was patient and kind when I had so much anxiety,” Renae remembers.
Renae needed a C-section, but even her fears over those unknowns were quickly calmed. “Everyone made me feel human when I was at my most vulnerable. The OR team even let me pray over them before taking me back to surgery,” she says.
Women’s Services Director Haley Dixon has been with Renae for three of her four deliveries and did her best to accommodate Renae’s wishes – even with the unexpected C-section.
“Haley is our Earth Angel. She’s a light in our family,” Renae said. “Haley and her team did everything they could to make this experience beautiful and accommodate our wishes as best they could, even though I had a C-section.”
Dr. Yolanda Borders, OB/GYN with Memorial Satilla Specialists – Women’s Health, has been Renae’s doctor through every pregnancy, and Renae appreciates how much time she takes with her patients. “I’ve had complications with every pregnancy, but Dr. Borders never lets me leave the office without knowing that I’m ok and she is going to take care of us,” Renae said.
“I knew I was safe every second,” Renae added.
